Portraits of Learning Differences

In the ongoing project Portraits of Learning Differences, I am actively building an archive of photographic portraits and oral history recordings that emphasizes firsthand experiences of people that are part of a diverse learning community. In this installation the black and white prints hang on the wall and the oral history recordings are played on blue classroom MP3 players and are heard through vintage language lab headphones. The headphones are setting on school desks that are below the portraits. Together the portraits and oral history recordings builds a longer connection between the visitor and the artwork. This connection reveals a more complete identity of the person that sat for their portrait. I an actively adding photographic portraits and oral history recordings to my ever growing archive of images and recordings to highlight the empowering potential of someone talking freely and openly about their way of learning.
