Ultra Large Format Portraits

The biggest camera I have modified is a 20x24” Ultra Large Format View Camera. The 20x24” camera was originally used in the process of creating The Miltonvale Record a newspaper in Miltonvale, Cloud County, Kansas. It was originally designed to shoot wide angle and flat graphic materials. I modified this camera to have a portrait focal length. I have always wanted to see the latent image on film become visible. I was able to do this with orthochromatic film. This film is processed in a darkroom with the use of a deep red safelight in paper trays with paper chemistry. With large format photography I an able to explore a rather historic way of approaching photography by slowing down, observing and making exposures sparingly.
